Weinan is located on the eastern part of the Guangzhong Plains, with Xi'an in the south, Xianyang in the west, Yan'an in the north, borders Shanxi province in the east and a small part of Henan province in the southeast. A lot of famous Chinese individuals were born in Weinan; such as Sima Qian: writer of China's first historical book, Bai Juyi: a Tang Dynasty poet and Kou Zhun: a prime minister of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). Besides being the native place of some famous Chinese, it offers a lot of interesting scenic spots. Also remnants of the Yangshao Culture are found back in Tongguan County.
In the southeast of Weinan lies the sacred Mount Hua, one of China's 5 sacred mountains. This is definitely the main touristic spot of whole Weinan. The Great Wall of the Wei Dynasty (386-550) can be found back in the northern part of this prefecture.
On the border with Shanxi province lies the Yellow River Hukou Waterfalls. Together with the Ming-Qing Dynasty Dangjia Village near Hancheng, these two are a must see in Weinan as well.
